Nawab, Insar, Kadir, and Islam were convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and were each fined Rs 30,000. The conviction came as a result of their involvement in the murder of Ikram.

The deadly incident occurred on July 14, 2014, in the Shamli district's Balwa village. Ikram was shot dead, and several others were injured, following a violent conflict grounded in an old enmity, according to government counsel Virendra Kumar Nagar.
