Maharashtra Steps Up: Ensuring Mukhyamantri Majhi Laadki Bahin Yojana Benefits the Right Women

Maharashtra's Women and Child Development Minister, Aditi Tatkare, is leading a verification process on 12,000 male accounts allegedly benefiting from the Mukhyamantri Majhi Laadki Bahin Yojana. The scheme, aimed at empowering women with monthly financial aid, faces scrutiny as Aadhaar linkage reveals potential misuse and ineligibility cases.

Maharashtra's government is intensifying efforts to ensure the Mukhyamantri Majhi Laadki Bahin Yojana assists only its intended beneficiaries. Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare announced a rigorous review of 12,000 male accounts suspected of receiving the scheme's benefits illicitly.

The scheme, introduced by the BJP-led Mahayuti administration, offers women Rs 1,500 monthly. However, discrepancies surfaced when nearly 26.34 lakh people reportedly misused or were ineligible for the benefits, according to the Information and Technology Department's data.

A pause on disbursements was implemented in June 2025 for questionable accounts, with the promise to resume for those verified as legitimate recipients. Minister Tatkare emphasized stringent measures against deceitful beneficiaries after consultations with top state leadership.
