The Delhi High Court, on Thursday, requested a response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concerning a plea filed by the legal heirs of the late Om Prakash Chautala, who was the former Chief Minister of Haryana. The heirs are seeking to become parties in the ongoing appeal against his conviction in a disproportionate assets case.

Justice Ravinder Dudeja issued a notice to the CBI and scheduled the matter for a hearing on September 15. The plea was filed in light of Chautala's death on December 20, 2024, in Gurugram, Haryana. His four-year sentence had been suspended by the high court.

In May 2022, Chautala was sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined Rs 50 lakh for acquiring assets disproportionate to his income between 1993 and 2006. The CBI's 2010 chargesheet accused him of amassing assets during his tenure as Chief Minister from July 1999 to March 2005.
