Maharashtra Accelerates Kunbi Certification Amid Quota Protests

In a recent development in Maharashtra's Marathwada region, over two lakh Kunbi certificates have been successfully issued, with authorities reporting zero backlog in many locations. This announcement was made by divisional commissioner Jitendra Papalkar, as part of the ongoing efforts to meet the demands of Maratha community activists.

The activists have been vocal about their desire for job quotas and reservations under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. They have pressed for the issuance of Kunbi certificates, historically tied to the OBC segment. To address these demands, the state government established the Justice Shinde committee.

During an online meeting, Justice Shinde reviewed the progress through video conferencing with various district collectors. Instructions were issued to update records and strengthen the committees responsible for issuing these vital certificates. Meanwhile, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange plans to lead a protest in Mumbai, seeking further action.
