Unified Call for the Release of Kashmiri Prisoners

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, has made a fervent call to political and social entities in Kashmir, urging a united effort towards securing the release of prisoners. Highlighting the humanitarian predicament, he emphasized the moral obligation to address the issue beyond politics.

Farooq stated the necessity for immediate collaborative action from all stakeholders, arguing that politicizing such a serious humanitarian concern would be disgraceful. His appeal is directed at political parties, social groups, and civil society members to work collectively for the prisoners' freedom.

Adding to the advocacy, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti recommended that Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah spearhead an all-party delegation to assess conditions in jails holding Kashmiri inmates. She also urged for the matter to be raised with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while PDP activists demanded either release or relocation of these prisoners closer to home.
