Supreme Court to Review Telangana Domicile Ruling for Central Government Employees' Children in Medical Admissions

The Supreme Court is set to review a plea alleging Telangana's non-compliance with domicile benefits for central government employees' children's admission in MBBS and BDS courses. The plea seeks clarification on a previous verdict supporting state rules, which provide exceptions for state and central employees.

In a significant judicial review, the Supreme Court on Tuesday agreed to examine a plea alleging that Telangana has failed to extend domicile benefits to central government employees' children in state medical college admissions. This comes in response to a prior ruling permitting domicile status to students studying in Telangana for four consecutive years until class 12.

The plea seeks clarification on the top court's earlier September 1 decision, which supported Telangana's policy while allowing exceptions for certain central and state government employees. The counsel argued that the state's rigid adherence has overlooked central government employees, thereby necessitating urgent judicial intervention before the ongoing admission process concludes.

The bench, led by Chief Justice B R Gavai, is expected to hear the case on September 19. Petitioners maintain that state actions breach the Supreme Court's directive, prompting the need for an expeditious clarification hearing instead of a contempt petition. The court has asked the petitioners to ensure the presence of the state's counsel for the upcoming hearing.
