Arunachal Pradesh is ramping up its disaster management efforts as Principal Secretary (Home) Kaling Tayeng highlights the necessity of updating the roles of Incident Response Team members regularly. Speaking at the state's annual monsoon preparedness meeting, Tayeng emphasized thorough evaluations of district disaster management plans to boost response capabilities.
The meeting coincided with an expansive state-level mega mock exercise, recreating a 7.7 magnitude earthquake scenario to test readiness. Conducted under the guidance of NDMA and organized by APSDMA, the drill involved stakeholders from various departments, including the Indian Army and NDRF, working in unison to ensure effective disaster response.
Initiatives such as securing critical telecom assets and ensuring power supply to communication infrastructures were underscored. A debriefing session followed, identifying gaps and proposing solutions for improved preparedness. The state's commitment to strengthening its disaster management system received commendation from all participating bodies.
