Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been ordered to stand trial on accusations of unwittingly distributing a sexual video without the involved parties' consent, as announced by a court based in Gran Canaria.
The charges also envelop three Real Madrid youth players, who are accused of filming and disseminating intimate footage of two young women, one of whom is a minor, during a June 2023 incident at a Gran Canaria beach club.
The case arises amidst heightened sensitivity regarding women's rights in Spain, following ex-federation chief Luis Rubiales' scandal involving the non-consensual kiss given to a national team player. Legal authorities seek a 2.5-year jail term for Asencio, age 22, for infractions against privacy. He denied wrongdoing but acknowledged showing the footage to a friend.
One alleged victim attests against all four men, while the other refrains from pointing at Asencio. Two implicated players have since left Real Madrid. Asencio, who refrains from comments, maintains innocence, asserting a lack of participation in any privacy violations.
