C Lalthanmawia Takes Oath as Mizoram's First Local Bodies Ombudsman

Former IPS officer C Lalthanmawia was sworn in as the first ombudsman for Mizoram's local bodies. The appointment follows the recent passage of legislation aimed at investigating corruption and maladministration. Lalthanmawia had a distinguished career in Mizoram's police service and received multiple national honors.

In a significant step towards transparency, former IPS officer C Lalthanmawia took oath on Friday as the first ombudsman for Mizoram's local bodies. Governor Vijay Kumar Singh administered the oath at a ceremony held in Raj Bhavan, attended by prominent state ministers and officials.

The appointment comes after the Mizoram Local Bodies Ombudsman Bill, 2025, was enacted during the Assembly's monsoon session. The legislation empowers Lalthanmawia to investigate allegations of corruption and maladministration within local bodies.

Lalthanmawia brings a wealth of experience to the role. His career in Mizoram Police Service began in 1989, and he was inducted into the IPS in 2022. He earned national commendations for his exemplary service before retiring from public service in February.
