Mizoram's Battle Against Drug Trafficking & Child Abuse

Mizoram is tackling rising drug-related crimes and child sexual abuse. In Serchhip, near Myanmar, drug trafficking is widespread. The state has opened a new district and sessions court to address these issues, despite previous delays due to staffing and infrastructure challenges. Proceedings are now operational.

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma highlighted the state's ongoing struggle with drug-related crimes and increasing child sexual abuse cases.

Speaking at the inauguration of the additional district and sessions judge circuit court in Serchhip, he stated the alarming rate of drug-related cases.

In Serchhip, which borders Myanmar, drug trafficking is particularly problematic, prompting intensified efforts from law enforcement. The state established the Serchhip district circuit court, announced in a November 2024 notification, but faced delays due to staffing and infrastructure hurdles.

Since June, proceedings began via video conferencing. Now, with a functional courtroom, the court is fully operational to handle these pressing issues.
