The Madras High Court has taken decisive action following the tragic stampede at actor-politician Vijay's rally by ordering the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The rally, held on September 27 in Karur, saw a devastating stampede that claimed the lives of 41 individuals and left more than 60 injured.
Leading the probe is senior IPS officer Asra Garg, who is currently serving as the Inspector General of Police for the North Zone. This initiative signals the court's demand for a comprehensive investigation into the incident to understand the circumstances and factors behind the tragedy.
In a significant move, the single judge bench also criticized the organizers from Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party over their role in the incident, highlighting the need for accountability in managing large public gatherings.
