Three officers from Italy's carabinieri militarised police were killed in an explosion during an eviction near Verona. Thirteen others were injured in the blast, which occurred in the town of Castel d'Azzano, 10 kilometres southwest of the city.
Two siblings in their 60s were detained in connection with the explosion, while a third managed to escape. The explosion was deliberate, triggered by a gas tank when officers opened the door of a two-story farmhouse filled with gas. Authorities had prior knowledge of threats from those occupying the house.
The incident highlights the dangerous challenges faced by law enforcement in executing evictions. Italian top officials, including Premier Giorgia Meloni, have offered condolences, condemning the explosion as a reckless act.
