The Civil Supplies Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N Manohar, announced significant reforms to tackle the illegal transport of ration rice across the state. One of the pivotal strategies is the introduction of rapid kits designed to curb such activities and enhance monitoring mechanisms.
The new strategy aims to dismantle smuggling networks and facilitate prompt punitive measures. Manohar highlighted the efficacy of these rapid kits, which allow on-the-spot verification of rice supplied through the Public Distribution System (PDS). These kits use chemical solutions to discern fortified rice, which reveals a red coloration, unlike ordinary rice.
The minister further clarified false claims about 'plastic rice,' underscoring the nutritional benefits of fortified rice. The current NDA government has seized more rice in 14 months than the previous administration did in five years, showcasing the effectiveness of these reforms. Criminal cases have been registered against those involved in irregularities.
