Tragedy Strikes Sleeping Family as Vehicle Hits Railing in Shimla

A speeding vehicle caused a tragic accident in Shimla, injuring five people, including four children and an adult, police reported on Monday. The incident took place at around 10 p.m. in the city's central area, when the vehicle hit a railing that subsequently fell on the family, who were sleeping on the footpath.
The injured, among them a four-month-old infant, are receiving medical treatment at Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital. They were initially referred by the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, according to police officials.
The family, originally hailing from Rajasthan and making a living by selling balloons, was sleeping between the Victory Tunnel and the Old Bus Stand. According to a complaint by family member Kailash, the vehicle, a white taxi, was speeding when it collided with the railing. The driver has since been taken into custody as the investigation unfolds.
