The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has initiated a probe into the suspected suicide of Anand, a Dalit police trainee, which occurred a month ago at the SAP camp in Peroorkada.

SHRC chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas has tasked the State Police Chief with investigating allegations made by Anand's mother that her son was driven to suicide due to caste-based harassment and torture by his training instructors. A report is expected in four weeks.

According to the complaint, verbal abuse and physical punishment were inflicted upon Anand by his superiors, with Chandrika, his mother, asserting that these actions contributed to his suicide shortly after his release from hospital treatment.
