An under-trial prisoner escaped from Soro sub-jail in Balasore district of Odisha, police reported on Wednesday.
Identified as 30-year-old Deepak Ray from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, the prisoner was apprehended for theft on October 19, but made his escape on Tuesday evening by scaling the prison wall using a blanket, according to sub-jailer Bailochan Das.
The escape came to light during a routine roll call after dinner. Das has filed a complaint with the police, who have commenced a search operation. The incident follows a similar escape by two under-trial prisoners earlier this month from a high-security jail in Cuttack district, Odisha.
