In a dramatic development, Odisha Police have apprehended 12 individuals, including former Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda, in connection with the murder of BJP leader Pitabas Panda. Authorities stated the crime stemmed from political rivalry, personal grudges, and financial loss.
SP Saravana Vivek M revealed that a sum of Rs 50 lakh was discussed to eliminate Pitabas Panda, with a Rs 10 lakh payout to the shooter. Law enforcement conducted extensive investigations, including questioning over 80 individuals and scrutinizing 500 CCTV clips. The weapon used in the killing has been recovered.
Amid growing tensions, police maintained a strong presence around the Berhampur court to prevent any backlash. The arrests have sparked a political battle, with accusations flying between parties regarding the protection of criminals and misuse of police power.
