Nicolas Sarkozy, the former president of France, has become the target of death threats from an inmate at Paris's La Sante prison, where he began his sentence this week. The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation following the emergence of a video on social media showing the threats.
According to statements from the prosecutor's office, the video, allegedly filmed by an inmate, depicts threats made upon Sarkozy's arrival at the prison. Authorities have interrogated three inmates and confiscated two mobile phones during a search, indicating heightened concern over the security breach.
Sarkozy, who served as France's president from 2007 to 2012, recently received a five-year sentence for conspiring to collect campaign funds from Libya. He is now under the protection of two armed police officers, a measure that has drawn criticism from prison guard unions.
