Amit Mallick, previously employed at SSKM Hospital, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl within hospital premises. On Friday, he was presented in court and placed under police custody until October 31 as investigations continue.
The Judges Court in Alipore has approved the prosecution's request for a medico-legal examination, DNA tests, and blood sampling of Mallick. He faces charges under the POCSO Act following the victim's signed statement. Police are examining CCTV footage that links Mallick to the crime.
This incident, among other recent crimes in healthcare settings, has prompted protests led by Congress and SUCI, who are demanding improved security measures to protect women within state institutions.
