A shocking incident has unfolded in West Tripura district, where three individuals have been arrested on suspicion of killing a 63-year-old tribal woman alleged to have practised witchcraft, according to police reports.
The elderly woman, Nandarani Debbarma, reportedly went missing from Abhicharan village under Sidhai Police Station limits. A special police operation led to the discovery and exhumation of her body from a nearby forest on October 26, confirmed by senior police officer Ajit Kumar Chakma.
Preliminary investigations suggest locals believed Debbarma's supposed black magic was causing illness among two village families. In response, a group allegedly lynched the woman on October 26 and clandestinely buried her to conceal the crime. Chakma stated that the detained individuals are currently undergoing interrogation as investigations continue.
