In a significant development, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Chhattisgarh has apprehended two minors for their alleged involvement with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma announced the detention on Tuesday, emphasizing the duo's ties to ISIS operatives in Pakistan.
Authorities revealed that the minors were highly active on social media, particularly Instagram, where they operated under fake identities. They were under the influence of extremist materials and were working to sway others, using social media platforms extensively to further ISIS's agenda.
Booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) of 1967, the youths represent the first case of its kind in the state. Sharma stressed the need to expand the ATS to other key areas of Chhattisgarh to identify and thwart similar threats. Meanwhile, citizens are urged to report any suspicious online activities promoting anti-national sentiment.
