A newborn girl's lifeless body was discovered in a rural village, prompting a police probe into her tragic death, authorities reported on Saturday.

Behat Circle Officer S N Vaibhav disclosed to PTI that the body was found in Baghuwala village, near the Mirzapur police station, late Friday. Police took custody of the body and initiated legal steps, including an autopsy.

Local cow-protection members found the bleeding infant and rushed her to a clinic, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities are reviewing local CCTV to identify suspects in the abandonment case.
