The state excise department has intensified its campaign against illicit liquor trade, registering 523 cases this financial year and confiscating over 54,945 litres of illegal alcohol, according to officials on Saturday.

Excise Commissioner Yunus revealed that special teams are conducting statewide raids, seizing thousands of litres of illicit liquor and raw materials. For instance, last month alone saw significant quantities confiscated across multiple regions, including Shimla, Mandi, and Palampur.

Legal actions are being taken against those involved, and villages like Milwan and Thakurdwara saw operational distilleries dismantled. The government urges public assistance in reporting illegal activities to prevent revenue loss.
