In a significant development, three officers from Dehat Kotwali police station have been suspended following allegations of harassment during Holi festivities. A woman constable accused them of misbehavior during a celebration on March 15.
According to reports, the constable was allegedly surrounded and harassed by fellow officers Amit Kumar, Shailendra, and Pannalal while they were inebriated, leading to unwanted advances masquerading as festive camaraderie.
The situation escalated when no immediate action was taken despite the victim reporting the incident to a station in-charge. An inquiry ensued after a formal complaint to the superintendent of police, eventually resulting in criminal charges against the accused, ordered by the ADG, Gorakhpur Zone.
