In a shocking incident on Thursday night in Howrah, West Bengal, Debobrata Mondal, a member of the TMC gram panchayat, and his associate Anupam Rana were severely injured when unidentified assailants opened fire at them, police reported on Friday.
While riding home near the Nishchinda-Buro Shibtala area, they were ambushed by two motorcycle-borne attackers who fired multiple rounds, resulting in Mondal being struck and collapsing on the scene and Anupam sustaining serious injuries during an attempted defense.
Authorities, including Howrah Police Commissioner Praveen Tripathy, are actively investigating the case, analyzing CCTV footage, and focusing on potential suspects like Suman Choudhury, a known history-sheeter. Senior TMC leaders have voiced concerns and called for swift arrests as the motive for the attack remains undetermined.
