The Delhi government has unveiled a proposal aimed at redefining the city's administrative layout by expanding the number of districts from the current 11 to 13. Officials confirmed the development on Friday, underscoring the goal of aligning jurisdictional and geographical boundaries with municipal zones.
Under the suggested plan by the Revenue department, nine districts will be newly named, including Civil Lines, Karol Bagh, and Rohini, among others. Currently functional districts such as Central District and New Delhi are part of the reorganization blueprint.
To accommodate the highest population density, North-East and East districts will transform into North Shahdara and South Shahdara. Notably, minimal changes are planned for New Delhi, known as Lutyens Delhi, with some sub-divisions being regrouped. The proposal awaits approval from the Delhi cabinet and the lieutenant governor.
