The Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti has escalated its protest for the dismantling of the unauthorized Sanjauli mosque with symbolic acts like a funeral procession for the state government. Members have been on a hunger strike for 12 days, demanding action against the mosque by cutting off its utilities.
The scheduled Saturday meeting with district officials was boycotted by the Samiti due to a lack of formal invitation, intensifying their dissent by burning an effigy of the state government. Co-convenor Vijay Sharma accused officials of deceit, threatening to scale up their protest.
With tensions high, the local Waqf Board has challenged the municipal court's demolition order in the high court, a decision on which is awaited. Despite religious tensions, no violent incidents have been reported, although the FIR against some Samiti members remains a point of contention.
