The Delhi Police's Vigilance Unit has apprehended a woman sub-inspector on charges of bribery, according to official reports released on Friday.
Allegations arose on Thursday from a Sangam Vihar resident who accused SI Namita, the officer handling her case, of soliciting a Rs 2 lakh bribe to influence the investigation. Namita, stationed at Sangam Vihar Police Station, reportedly warned the complainant that failing to pay would jeopardize her case.
Responding swiftly, the Vigilance Unit orchestrated a sting operation at the police station. At the predetermined moment, the complainant met with the officer, who allegedly requested an initial payment of Rs 15,000. Once the sum was placed in a file on the officer's desk, law enforcement officials intervened, seizing the bribe and arresting Namita. An FIR has been lodged, prompting further inquiry into the incident.
