Pakistan's defense ministry officially announced Field Marshal Asim Munir's appointment as the country's first Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), signifying a significant restructuring in military leadership unseen since the 1970s.
The decision was sanctioned by President Asif Ali Zardari, based on recommendations from Prime Minister's Office, and comes after the recent passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, establishing the CDF position to consolidate command operations.
This transformation, which replaces the now-defunct Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee post, is expected to enhance the synergy of multi-domain military operations essential in modern warfare, says Army spokesman Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry.
