A special court has sentenced Shafeeq Ahmad to life imprisonment, marking a significant development in a 25-year-old rape case involving a Dalit girl. The judgment was delivered on Friday by Special Judge (SC/ST Act) Amit Kumar Malviya.
The Additional District Government Counsel Ramesh Chandra Tripathi reported that the court not only sentenced Ahmad to life in prison but also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. The case dates back to January 14, 2000, when the complaint was first registered.
The police had filed charges against Ahmad under rape and sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after a thorough investigation. The conviction is seen as a pivotal moment in the pursuit of justice for the victim and her family.
