A conductor working for the BEST bus service in Mumbai was reportedly defrauded of Rs 4.5 lakh by three individuals who promised to secure him a job with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), local police disclosed on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Mahesh Devkar, lodged a complaint resulting in an FIR against Sarfaraz Salmani, Nilesh Sarode, and Yogesh Kumar Shukla. It is alleged that in 2022, a mutual acquaintance introduced Devkar to Sarode, who claimed he could facilitate a government job placement.
Devkar was reportedly asked for an initial Rs 1 lakh as a processing fee and later flew to Delhi for a supposed medical exam. The accused then extracted further payments by giving fake appointment letters, but Devkar's suspicions led to a police report when a refund cheque bounced. Police have launched an investigation into the matter, but no arrests have been made yet.
