A jeweller in Thane, Maharashtra, has reportedly fallen victim to a significant fraud, with police registering a case against a couple and an accomplice who allegedly cheated him out of Rs 70 lakh.
The accused built a reputation of trust with the jeweller from Golawli in Dombivli through timely payments on prior transactions. However, in October, they purchased gold ornaments totaling around Rs 70 lakh on three different occasions, and subsequently failed to clear their dues.
When the jeweller pressed for payment, the accused resorted to abuse and threats. A complaint led police to book the trio under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including cheating, dishonest misappropriation of property, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation.
