Three Thai civilians have been killed as intense fighting erupted along the Thai-Cambodian border, marking the first civilian fatalities since combat resumed, reported the Thai military on Thursday.

On Wednesday night, Cambodia launched artillery and mortar attacks on Thai positions, resulting in a heavy exchange of similar weaponry, damaging several targets including Cambodian trucks, according to a Thai Army statement. Fighting has resulted in around two dozen deaths and widespread displacement.

Amid escalating violence, international voices, including Pope Leo XIV, have expressed deep concern, while U.S. President Donald Trump indicated plans to urge a return to the July-brokered ceasefire.
