A Ghanaian national has been apprehended in the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya for allegedly travelling under a fake identity. Police announced on Thursday that the individual was attempting to illegally cross into Bangladesh.
William Addo Agyei, who initially claimed to be Stanley Obayendo, was caught by locals. Upon questioning, he revealed his true identity. Agyei had entered India on a medical visa which expired, and his extension request reportedly remained unanswered.
Directed to report to authorities in Bengaluru, Agyei instead sought help from a tout named Frank to escape through Meghalaya. He was intercepted by villagers and handed over to the police, who have registered a case against him for the fraudulent activity.
