In an alarming development, the Himachal Pradesh Police have issued a strong advisory cautioning the public about unsolicited calls offering online trading, IPO subscriptions, and investment schemes. This comes in the wake of a significant fraud case where an apple orchardist fell victim to a Rs 36 lakh scam.
The victim was reportedly scammed by an imposter claiming to represent IndNiv Pro Company. Initially persuaded to invest Rs 15,000, the orchardist was further coaxed into investing Rs 14 lakhs in an alleged IPO. Falling prey to the fraudster's tactics, he was then deceived into transferring additional funds on the pretext of service charges and error rectifications.
The advisory urges the public not to download suspicious apps or transfer funds without verifying the authenticity of the investment platform. It advises checking a company's legitimacy through official channels like SEBI, keeping devices updated, and using antivirus software. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities to the National Cyber Crime Helpline.
