In a significant breakthrough, police arrested seven individuals from the Parnashree area for allegedly running a fake call centre scam. The operation, discovered in the southern part of the city, was reportedly defrauding American citizens by posing as antivirus company representatives.
On Friday night, acting on a tip-off, authorities raided a house on Netaji Subhas Road, uncovering the illicit operations on its ground floor. The suspects had established a bogus company, using forged documents to gain citizens' trust, according to the investigating officer.
Victims unknowingly granted remote access to their devices, allowing fraudsters to siphon millions from their accounts. During the raid, police seized laptops, WiFi routers, mobile phones, and headsets. Efforts to uncover the full extent of the network continue, with the suspects being questioned.
