In the wake of the tragic Arpora fire, Goa's authorities have intensified a crackdown on tourist establishments failing to adhere to safety norms and legal requirements. Specifically targeted was Cafe CO2 Goa, which was sealed due to lacking essential clearances, just days after Goya Club faced similar action.
A state government-led inspection revealed that Cafe CO2 Goa did not have a no-objection certificate from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, and lacked structural stability. The incident cast a spotlight on systemic failures and alleged corruption within the state government.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, campaigning for local body elections, accused the ruling BJP government of corruption, suggesting it played a significant role in the tragic nightclub fire at Arpora, which led to 25 fatalities. Kejriwal cited the lack of essential licences for the nightclub, questioning how it continued operating.
