In a dramatic protest on Tuesday, opposition MPs rallied in the Parliament House complex against the newly introduced VB-G RAM G Bill, accusing the ruling BJP of insulting Mahatma Gandhi. The controversial bill aims to replace the MGNREGA, a move the opposition staunchly opposed.
Prominent figures like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav, and TR Baalu spearheaded the demonstration, voicing concerns that the bill threatens the rural employment guarantee scheme. The MPs argued that this legislative shift would strip millions of laborers of their right to employment and demanded its immediate withdrawal.
The bill, introduced by Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, proposes a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment annually, pivoting towards infrastructure development. While Chouhan defended the initiative, claiming alignment with Mahatma Gandhi's principles, the opposition called for a deeper scrutiny by a parliamentary panel.
