In a concerning disclosure, it has been unveiled that a total of 438 suicides and seven fratricides occurred among the personnel of Central Armed Police Forces, Assam Rifles, and the National Security Guard over the last three years, according to government data presented in Parliament.

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, indicated in a Lok Sabha response that suicide numbers decreased from 157 in 2023 to 133 in 2025. However, fratricide incidents showed a troubling rise. The Central Reserve Police Force accounted for the highest suicide numbers, followed by the Border Security Force and Central Industrial Security Force.

The report highlighted that 23,360 personnel resigned from service between 2014 and 2025, with a significant chunk occurring in 2025. Efforts such as improved mental health support, stress-management workshops, and better leave policies are underway to address challenges faced by the forces.
