The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is urging a comprehensive investigation into the activities of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Jammu and Kashmir. During a press conference, BJP's J-K spokesperson, Altaf Thakur, alleged that many NGOs are unregistered yet receiving foreign funds, which are allegedly used for reviving terrorism in the Union Territory.
Raising further concerns, Thakur noted that there are 16,000 NGOs in the region but only 239 are officially registered. He emphasized the urgency of probing their financial sources and expenditure, claiming that the government has already taken action against several NGOs suspected of having terror links.
Thakur appealed to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah for strict measures against NGOs supporting terrorist networks. He questioned the lack of scrutiny over their operations and urged the cancellation of registrations for those engaged in anti-national activities. Thakur criticized local police for alleged oversights that allowed NGOs to obtain funding unchecked.
