Delhi Police Faces High Vacancy Rates in Key Ranks

According to official data presented in the Rajya Sabha, over 10% of sanctioned positions in the Delhi Police remain vacant. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) ranks experience the highest proportion of vacancies at more than 36%.
Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, outlined that as of November 30, 2025, there are 9,248 vacancies against a sanctioned strength of 92,044 within the Delhi Police, equating to a 10% overall vacancy rate. The ACP cadre has 125 vacancies in 346 sanctioned posts, making up 36%. This is followed closely by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police with a 28% vacancy rate.
Constable positions show the largest deficit in absolute terms, with 4,591 of 50,946 posts unfilled, translating to about a 9% shortfall. The minister emphasized that vacancies result from retirements and promotions, and efforts are ongoing to fill these gaps continuously through recruitment exams and other assessments.
