The Jammu and Kashmir government has introduced a series of technological measures to combat illegal mining activities in the region. Among the changes are requirements for GPS-enabled vehicles, RFID registration, and valid e-Challans for transporting minor minerals, as announced by officials on Wednesday.

Amendments to the 2016 rules with the power bestowed by the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, are aimed at tightening oversight of mineral transportation. Effective January 26, mining operators will be required to use GPS and RFID-equipped vehicles along with a valid Form 'A' e-Challan for all mineral transportation.

Officials have also announced the establishment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and a groundbreaking Integrated Mining Surveillance System (IMSS) to ensure compliance and transparency. This system, developed with BISAG-N, integrates various data points into a digital dashboard, enhancing enforcement efforts and public accountability.
