A lorry transporting parcels was engulfed in flames on Thursday morning near Nadathara, triggered by firecrackers bursting within some of the packages, police reported.
The incident unfolded around 9 AM as workers transferred parcels from the lorry to another vehicle, resulting in one worker sustaining burns to his arm.
According to Ollur police, the blaze was ignited during the unloading process when a spark was generated by dragging packages along the lorry floor. The vehicle sustained significant damage.
The driver fled the scene in the other vehicle, but police have since apprehended him.
A case under the Explosives Act is being prepared against the parcel transport company and the senders of the firecracker-laden packages.
