In a concerning rise in urban crime, the national capital witnessed a sharp increase in burglary cases throughout 2024, according to the Delhi Statistical Hand Book 2025. The city recorded 8,965 instances of burglary, escalating from 6,916 in 2023, marking a 29.6% increase.
Attempt to murder cases also showed a significant rise, climbing from 757 incidents in 2023 to 898 in 2024, an 18.6% increase year-on-year. Despite these alarming numbers, the murder rate showed marginal stability, registering a slight decline to 504 cases in 2024.
In response, the Delhi Police have intensified their efforts with increased area domination and night patrolling, focusing on vulnerable areas. Special pickets, mobile patrols, and additional foot patrols have been deployed, contributing to effective crime management, according to a senior police official.
