In the wake of a tragic fire at 'Birch by Romeo Lane' nightclub in Goa last month, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced a comprehensive investigation into the incident that claimed 25 lives. Addressing the state assembly, Sawant disclosed that the nightclub had been operating under various names over the years, raising questions about its regulatory compliance.

Sawant assured the assembly that a crackdown has commenced on tourism establishments without necessary permits. He emphasized that no violators, including VIPs, will receive special protection. The chief minister noted that from 2021 to 2025, the Coastal Zone Management Authority (CZMA) issued 336 demolition orders out of 534 complaints received.

Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao demanded transparency on establishments violating Coastal Regulation Zone laws, and further accused the CZMA of negligence. Meanwhile, the magisterial inquiry into the Arpora nightclub fire is complete, with actions underway. Sawant confirmed that a Red Corner notice has been issued against the nightclub's owner, Surinder Khosla.
