In a swift operation, forest officials apprehended five individuals on Friday for allegedly engaging in the illegal hunting of sambar deer within the Irulam Forest Station limits.

The suspects, Jose Mathew, Sibi P S, Reji P J, Eldhose K M, and Joseph Sebastian, all from Pulpally, were intercepted after a tip-off revealed their presence in the forest with country-made firearms.

Authorities seized two deer carcasses, a homemade gun, ammunition, and the gang's vehicle during the arrest. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the group's activities and any links to similar poaching incidents.
