Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district made a significant breakthrough by seizing 9,086 litres of illicit liquor, valued at approximately Rs 75 lakh, destined for Bihar. The arrest of a smuggler follows the interception of a truck along the Purvanchal Expressway, a move hailed by the police as a major success in curbing illegal alcohol trade.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sadar) Rakesh Kumar Singh confirmed the operation, stating that the Narhi police acted promptly on credible information about the consignment's movement from Ghazipur. The officers successfully apprehended the vehicle near Sohawn petrol pump, thereby preventing the illicit goods from reaching their intended destination.
The accused, identified as 27-year-old Achla Ram from Barmer district, Rajasthan, allegedly attempted to disguise the liquor with egg cartons. Legal proceedings have commenced under the Excise Act, with the investigation ongoing to uncover further links in this smuggling operation.
