Bihar Police is advancing its forensic capabilities by sending a Rs 163 crore proposal to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for the operationalisation of six new Forensic Science Laboratories in the state. Currently, four FSLs are operational, including one in Patna.

ADGP (CID) Paras Nath confirmed the expansion plan and highlighted the significance of these new labs in enhancing forensic investigations post the enactment of new criminal laws. If sanctioned, the labs will be equipped by 2026, complementing a recent agreement with the National Forensic Science University to launch cyber forensic units by July 2025.

The force is addressing personnel shortages, and efforts to fill vacancies are underway to speed up exhibit investigations. In addition, the state has increased mobile forensic vans from 17 to 51, distributed across districts to support on-ground forensic procedures.
