Delhi High Court Upholds Verdict Against Sengar in Unnao Custodial Death Case

The Delhi High Court on Monday upheld the 10-year jail sentence of former BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the case concerning the custodial death of the Unnao rape survivor's father. The court dismissed the appeal for suspension of his sentence, noting that trial delays were partly due to Sengar's own legal maneuvers.

Justice Ravinder Dudeja, overseeing the case, emphasized that the prolonged incarceration of Sengar for seven-and-a-half years did not justify sentence suspension, as he consistently applied for interim suspension and extension of bail. The judge called for the appeal to be heard on merit expediently, while acknowledging the lack of new circumstances to warrant relief.

The ruling brought solace to the rape survivor, who stated her father's spirit can find some peace. She continues to demand the harshest punishment for those involved in her assault and her father's death, asserting it is a broader fight for justice and truth. The court has scheduled the next appeal hearing for February 3.
