Royal Turmoil: Crown Princess’ Son in Custody Amidst Grievous Charges
The eldest son of Norway's crown princess, Marius Borg Hoiby, has been detained following new accusations as he faces trial for multiple charges, including rape and domestic violence. The Oslo District Court approved police detention amid concerns of repeated offenses, while Hoiby's legal team considers an appeal.
The Oslo District Court ruled on Monday that Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit, will remain in police custody following fresh allegations against him. Hoiby, 29, already faces a trial this week on rape and other criminal charges.
Law enforcement officials apprehended Hoiby on Sunday for allegedly causing bodily harm, wielding a knife, and breaking a restraining order. The Court approved his detention for four weeks, citing the risk of further offenses, while Hoiby's lawyer evaluates the possibility of an appeal.
With his trial underway, Hoiby confronts four counts of rape, domestic violence, and other charges, with prosecutors weighing additional charges. The legal saga has cast a shadow on the Norwegian monarchy. Hoiby, while denying charges of rape and domestic violence, admitted to lesser crimes and will present his defense in court.
